Novastep’s Lync® Eclipses the Milestone of 2,000 Surgeries

Orangeburg, New York, March 01, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Novastep, Inc., and its affiliates (“Novastep” or the “Company”), a global medical device company specializing in foot and ankle technologies, announced today that the company’s Lync® Hammertoe Implant has been successfully used in more than 2,000 surgical cases.

The Lync Hammertoe System features a one-piece implant that is manufactured from anodized titanium. Its patent pending design includes insertion tapers and migration resistant talons that facilitate accurate placement and stable bone purchase.  The reported outcomes for this next generation hammertoe deformity correction product, which is differentiated from its competitors in both design and material, have impressed members of the foot and ankle surgical community.

Roman Sibel, MD of Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, who specializes in trauma and reconstructive surgery, explained that “The Lync System is efficient, reliable and effective. The implant can be used at ambient temperatures because it does not require refrigeration and its platform consists of only three instruments that are neatly organized into one minimally sized sterilization module. Medullary canal preparation and device insertion do not require the placement of guidewires and the actual surgery is performed in four, easily reproducible steps.”

The Lync is available in two angular offsets, straight or with a 10⁰ bend, for precise anatomic fitting and alignment. Loïc Girod, Novastep’s Vice President of Research and Development added that “The entire system was engineered with the surgeon and O.R. staff in mind. Our objective was to save everyone time and effort. This philosophy inspired us to come up with a streamlined set of instruments that includes the multi-purpose insertion forceps, highlighting a uniquely designed lock and load mechanism that permits convenient implant deployment, rapid insertion and manual, one-click compression. The implant’s proximal and distal leg pairs are designed to spring into simultaneous action by means of these forceps to impart bifocal intramedullary compressive forces for enhanced stability and resistance to pullout.”

All Novastep implants, including the Lync, are packaged sterile and are neatly arranged by means of the cleanSTART® Dispenser. The Lync implants are individually packaged in quickTUBE® cylinders that permit simplified inventory control and reliable tracking.

Lync, along with other ingredients of the Novastep portfolio will be featured this week during the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) in Orlando, FL at Booth No. 3523
