UFCW Local 175 Reassures Canadian Members as Rexall Health Sold to American-Based Corporation

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - March 3, 2016) - Local 175 of the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW), which represents workers at Pharmx Rexall and Pharma Plus stores in Ontario, is responding to yesterday's announcement from Katz Group of its sale of Rexall Health pharmacies to McKesson for $3 billion.

"It's always a concern when a Canadian company is sold to a foreign-owned corporation," said Shawn Haggerty, President UFCW Local 175. "We are reaching out to the company to review the situation and ensure the livelihoods of our Canadian workers are protected in the midst of this billion-dollar deal."

Members of Local 175 at 90 Pharmx Rexall and 136 Pharma Plus stores have a current contract in place with the employer.

"The company is required to adhere to the agreement in place and has to negotiate in good faith at the expiry of that agreement," explained President Haggerty. "I want to assure our Union members that we will continue to uphold the provisions of their contract."

UFCW Locals 175 & 633 represents more than 70,000 Union members working across Ontario, including members working at 226 Rexall and Pharma Plus stores across Ontario.
