Digital Advertising Pioneer Michael Twomey Joins Signal to Lead New People-Based Marketing Solution

CHICAGO, IL and SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--(Marketwired - Mar 10, 2016) - Signal, a global leader in real-time, people-based marketing, today announced that Michael Twomey, one of Australia's foremost thought leaders and innovators in data-driven digital advertising, has joined the company as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of People-Based Marketing. In this role, Twomey will oversee Signal's addressable media solution, with a focus on helping brands and agencies expand the reach and improve the performance of their digital media efforts.

Twomey has extensive professional experience in digital marketing and advertising, having most recently spent four years at Coles, one of Australia's largest retailers. While there, he pioneered one of the world's first in-house programmatic advertising solutions focused on targeting real people, not cookies, through digital media. flybuys, Australia's most popular shopping rewards program, is a foundational client and early adopter of Signal's new approach to digital media to deliver relevant and meaningful advertising to flybuys' members for Coles and flybuys' partners.

"The precision targeting and one-on-one engagement that brands get using first-party data in their direct marketing efforts can also be applied to digital advertising," Twomey said. "Over the last four years, this approach has been proven, and I am thrilled to join Signal and make this people-based marketing solution available to advertisers and media buyers in Australia."

"I am particularly impressed with Signal's proven track record helping companies like Yahoo! Japan, one of the world's largest Internet brands, execute targeted marketing with laser-sharp precision, broad reach, market-wide scale, and at the lightning-fast speed which always-on consumers are making buying decisions. Signal's technology, which targets people rather than cookies, eliminates the guesswork, waste and fraud involved in buying digital media, and is the way forward for the advertising industry."

Twomey has extensive experience in direct and loyalty marketing, including nearly two years as Head of Strategy for Silverpop APAC, an email marketing and lead management solution that was acquired by IBM in 2014. This experience helped Twomey realize the power in expanding the precision targeting of email marketing into other channels such as display, social, mobile, and video.

"Advertisers are increasingly finding success with people-based targeting, and worldwide spending on such campaigns is expected to double by 2017. Michael brings industry-leading expertise to Signal, having bridged the precision and relevance of email and the reach of display ads into one solution. With Michael as part of our senior leadership, Signal will continue to remain at the forefront of the people-based movement," said Marc Kiven, Founder and CRO at Signal.

Twomey's new position continues Signal's positive momentum and growth, as the company recently announced an expanded executive leadership team. Signal also recently achieved several awards and honors, including being named the #3 fastest-growing software company on the 2015 Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing companies, and #51 overall.
