Accellion Extends Microsoft Office 365 Across the Enterprise and the Cloud

New Integrations and Microsoft Cloud Storage Partner Program Membership Augment Access, Editing and Sharing of Office Documents

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 31, 2016) - Accellion, Inc., the leading provider of private cloud solutions for secure file sharing and collaboration that enhance data security and compliance, today announced key productivity features that add significant value to enterprise employees already leveraging Microsoft Corp. applications to find, create, edit and share enterprise content that is stored in various on-premises and cloud content systems.

Accellion's content platform, kiteworks, now extends Microsoft Office Online to content stored on-premises and in the cloud without having to duplicate files. These capabilities are largely enabled by Accellion's ongoing collaboration with Microsoft and reflect a common interest in making enterprise employees productive and more secure.

"We want to give Office customers the best possible experience when working with Office files, regardless of how they are accessed or where they are stored. Microsoft is excited that Accellion has joined the Cloud Storage Provider program, enabling our joint customers to be more productive when accessing Office documents on the web or in the cloud," said Rob Howard, director, Office 365 Ecosystem, Microsoft.

Streamlined Access to Files Stored in the Enterprise
A seamless integration with Office Online gives users a single pane of glass to access files stored in network drives, Microsoft SharePoint on-premises servers, SharePoint Online, Documentum, OpenText, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, and other content systems. In addition, enterprises can significantly mitigate the risk of a data leak because the streamlined access to these files occurs in kiteworks.

A critical feature of this integration is the ability for users to create or access any Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, or Word file from the Web, their desktop or mobile device without having to save or upload files back to the content system in which the file resides.

Full Text Search
Users can easily locate files using full text search of file contents, in addition to file and folder names stored in kiteworks and in popular content systems like Microsoft SharePoint and Windows file shares.

With a typical enterprise containing terabytes of data, saved in thousands of files, dispersed over dozens of content systems, searching for content can be frustrating and time consuming, requiring users to remember the file name or location. With full text search capability, employees can now find content quickly and efficiently, which makes them more productive.

Access and Co-Author Documents in the Cloud
As part of Microsoft's Cloud Storage Partner Program, kiteworks users will be able to leverage Office Online or their mobile device to find, create, edit, and save changes made in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word files stored in the cloud.

Collaborative editing, or co-authoring, for Office Online documents that are stored in partner cloud systems is a key new feature. This will enable enterprise employees to collaborate with one another on documents in real time.

"Having kiteworks seamlessly integrated with Microsoft applications significantly enhances ROI for IT organizations by leveraging their existing investments in legacy content systems," commented Yorgen Edholm, CEO of Accellion. "These capabilities are critical for enabling enterprise employees to work efficiently and more securely. We look forward to continuing our work with Microsoft to empower enterprise productivity, collaboration and security."

These new capabilities complement the many Microsoft integrations already supported by kiteworks, including:

  • Microsoft Office for iOS and Android - open, edit and save files to kiteworks using iOS and Android devices
  • Azure Cloud - access enterprise content systems in real-time, enabled by Microsoft Azure's private cloud deployment option
