Media Advisory: Community Legal Clinic Releases Report on Exploitation of Chinese Workers in GTA Restaurants

TORONTO, ON --(Marketwired - April 21, 2016) - The Metro Toronto Chinese & Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (MTCSALC) will release the report, "Sweet & Sour: The Struggle of Chinese Restaurant-Workers" at a Press Conference in Toronto on Monday April 25, 2016. Based on a survey of over 180 GTA restaurant workers of Chinese descent, the report shows the extent to which their rights under the Employment Standards Act are being respected or not by their employers.

This is the most comprehensive survey of Chinese restaurant-workers to date, and follows a similar study conducted almost thirty years ago by Toronto-based community based organizations serving Chinese immigrants.

The survey also examined the workers' experience with the Ministry of Labour claim process under the Employment Standards Act.

MTCSALC will present the report recommendations to the Ontario Government based on workers' demands and key survey findings.
