TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 29, 2016) - Maureen O'Reilly, President of Local 4948 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 4948 - the Toronto Public Library Workers Union) is inviting all public library patrons and supporters to come to Nathan Phillips Square from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, April 30, for a special Teddy Bears Picket.
The Teddy Bears Picket is in support of Local 4948, currently in contract negotiations with the Toronto Public Library Board. Legal lockout/strike deadline is 12:01a.m., Monday, May 2.
The picnic will feature:
- welcoming remarks from Local 4948 President Maureen O'Reilly and other prominent library supporters;
- readings by award-winning children's authors Anne Laurel Carter and Richard Scrimger;
- musical performances by rap artist Mohammad Ali Aumeer and Kensington favourites Dead Penny Collect;
- prizes, face painting, giveaways and much, much more - including lots of Teddy Bears!
