Minister Brison Statement on the 2016 Spring Reports of the Auditor General of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 3, 2016) - The Honourable Scott Brison, President of the Treasury Board, today made the following statement:

"We welcome the Auditor General's reports. These reports highlight key areas for improvement, a number of which we had identified and are already being addressed.

In particular, the Government is committed to:

  • fully honouring the service of our veterans;
  • protecting the integrity of the Citizenship Program;
  • creating a transparent and merit-based process for Governor-in- Council appointments;
  • maintaining a safe, reliable and cost-effective passenger rail service in Canada; and
  • ensuring that the Canadian Armed Forces have all the equipment and the training they need to defend Canada's security and interests at home and abroad.

We are modernizing how the government operates, in order to reflect the values and expectations of Canadians.

As the Prime Minister has said, we will deliver real results and professional government to Canadians. To ensure that we have a strong focus on results, Cabinet committees and individual ministers are expected to: track and report on the progress of our commitments; assess the effectiveness of our work; and align our resources with priorities, in order to get the results we want and Canadians deserve.

The Auditor General's recommendations in the audits will help guide the Government in addressing these priority areas."
