Free Guide Offers In-Depth Interviews With Award-Winning Photographers Along With Tips on Publishing Beautiful Photo Books

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 04, 2016) -   Blurb, Inc., the leading creative book and magazine self-publishing platform, has partnered with PhotoShelter to release a free educational guide for professional photographers, The Photographer's Guide to Publishing Photo Books. Released today, the book is available at resources.photoshelter.com/guide-to-publishing-photo-books.

The Photographer's Guide to Publishing Photo Books, published by Blurb, features exclusive interviews with award-winning photographers who have successfully completed book projects through self-publishing and traditional publishing. The photographers also share lessons learned along the way, including different paths to publishing, ideas for selling and marketing your book.

The Guide includes 10 steps on how to create a beautiful book with professional-looking results, from Blurb Photographer at Large, Dan Milnor.

Photographers profiled in The Photographer's Guide to Publishing Photo Books include:

  • Ron Haviv: An award-winning photojournalist who turned more than 200 rolls of his own undeveloped analog film into a book entitled The Lost Rolls. His photography work spans more than 20 years and covers a range of conflicts and political events. Haviv is profiled by Milnor, and discusses The Lost Rolls published with Blurb.
  • Evan Joseph: A lifestyle photographer who spends his time jumping into helicopters and climbing New York City rooftops, photo shooting interiors, architecture, aerials and street scenes. In the chapter, "Tapping into a Niche," Joseph discusses his career photographing these buildings and scenes, which opened the door to book publishing. Four of his books have been published with the latest entitled New York From Above.
  • Brad Mangin: An accomplished sports photographer who has published four photography books: Instant Baseball, and three about covering championship seasons for the San Francisco Giants: Worth the Wait (2010), Never Say Die (2012) and Championship Blood (2012). Mangin shares his book publishing experiences with insights on choosing a publisher, compiling, editing, producing, and marketing photography books.
  • Will Steacy: A New York-based photographer and writer whose work has been featured in The New Yorker, Esquire, Harper's, Mother Jones, and The Paris Review, who self-published Deadline. Steacy's personal connection to the newspaper industry drove him to spend five years photographing The Philadelphia Inquirer's operations to tell the story of the shrinking newspaper industry. In his profile included in the guide, he shares, "How to Crowdfund Your Photo Book," based on his own successful Kickstarter campaign to finance Deadline, which included producing a newspaper and book of the Inquirer work.
  • Emily Shur: A Los Angeles-based photographer who makes her living doing celebrity and entertainment portraiture for editorial clients like The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Entertainment Weekly. Emily also shoots other work that is more personal, including a collection of photos she's been taking for more than a decade of travels to Japan. In the guide, Shur talks about "Self-Publishing Your Passion Project" about her book entitled Playground.
