Puppet Appoints Deepak Giridharagopal as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect

Deepak to Drive Puppet's Technology Strategy to Serve Its Mission of Enabling Unconstrained Technology Change

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - May 5, 2016) - Puppet, the standard for automating the delivery and operation of the software that powers everything around us, today named Deepak Giridharagopal its chief technology officer (CTO) and chief architect. The largest and most complex companies in the world use Puppet to automate the delivery and operation of software across an incredibly broad range of technologies, including physical, virtual, cloud and containers. As Puppet is leveraged by a more diverse customer base to manage a wider set of technologies, it becomes a more mission critical asset to today's business.

In his new role, Deepak will drive the long-term technological decisions that will ensure Puppet is able to solve today's and tomorrow's business requirement of continually deploying and managing the software that underpins everything in the modern world. Deepak will also be deeply involved with the community in Project Blueshift to help organizations adopt new technologies in production simply, reliably, and consistently.

"No one has had bigger technical influence on the development of our products in the past five years than Deepak," said Luke Kanies, Puppet founder and CEO. "From his founding of our data service, PuppetDB, to his work helping scale Puppet for massive global deployments, Deepak has been key in driving the strategy and execution of Puppet as a platform."

"Puppet is a strategic part of the way companies deliver great software," said Deepak. "It's being used by the largest businesses on the planet to manage everything from basic configuration changes to full-stack application deployments running on anything from physical or virtual machines, the cloud, containers and beyond. But this is just the start. As CTO and chief architect, I'll be able to work more closely with our amazing development staff and community to further push the envelope and meet the rapidly changing needs of our users and customers."

Deepak has played an integral role in every version of Puppet and Puppet Enterprise shipped in his five years at Puppet. He oversaw the development and work around new versions of core projects including the Puppet language, Facter, PuppetDB, Puppet Server, and new major features such as application orchestration. Much of that work was critical to the massive increases in performance and scale that Puppet users depend on. He also helped grow engineering from a single dev team to a collaborative organization spanning teams around the world to build and ship what has become the industry standard for automating the delivery and operation of software.

Deepak's appointment builds on other recent additions to Puppet's executive team including Sanjay Mirchandani (president and COO), Simon Hayes (senior vice president of business and corporate development), and Jamie Hull (vice president of product).
