Annual Flagship Business Intelligence Report Examines User Trends and Directions; 2016 Buyers' Guide Edition Now Available
NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - May 31, 2016) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2016 Wisdom of Crowds® Business Intelligence Market Study, its annual assessment of the business intelligence (BI) market -- examining key user trends, attitudes, and plans for the next three years.
For each annual study, BI users contribute their opinion on many topics related to their current and planned usage and are asked to prioritize technologies and initiatives strategic to BI. In 2016 the study was expanded to track five additional initiatives and technologies, including governance, streaming data analysis, data storytelling, and edge computing, extending the analysis to a total of 30 areas.
The 2016 BI Market Study shows that fundamental BI technologies such as reporting, dashboards, and self-service are of top importance, while cognitive BI and Internet of Things are considered "fringe" priorities. Penetration of BI has grown noticeably in 2016, with most organizations employing one, two, or three different BI tools.
The 2016 BI Market Study also includes a new section examining the chief analytics and chief data officer roles within organizations. Current uptake and maturity of chief data and chief analytics officers is modest, with fewer than 15 percent of organizations -- mostly large -- adopting the title. The majority report to the CEO, while others are managed by the IT or finance department.
"Since our first BI Market Study in 2010, we have continually expanded the scope of our market analysis, maintaining coverage of importance fundamental initiatives while collecting input on emerging paradigms and technologies," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "We are also pleased to have an ever-growing consortium of users who contribute readily on their experience and intended usage. In its seven years of publication, end user participation in our annual survey has more than tripled from 458 to over 1,500."
The company also announced availability of the 2016 Buyers' Guide Edition. This separate, exclusive version of the flagship BI Market Study enables readers to compare and contrast twenty-six different vendor-supported BI features across traditional, cloud, and mobile platforms for 28 individual vendors.
The Buyers' Guide is an invaluable resource for any organization looking to evaluate industry offerings," added Mr. Dresner. "It provides a timely assessment of available products and strengths, offering an unbiased portrait of the current supplier market to aid in the technology selection process."
The annual Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence Market Study is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
