The Israel Project Applauds NY Governor Cuomo for Standing Up Against BDS Hate

The Israel Project today applauded New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) for taking a stand against efforts to single out Israel for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). Under the new executive order, state agencies will not do business with companies participating in the discriminatory movement, and no New York tax dollars will go to support this form of anti-Semitic hatred.

WASHINGTON, June 06, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Israel Project (TIP) today applauded New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for taking a strong stance against efforts to single out Israel for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). Cuomo is the first governor to use an executive order to prevent state agencies from doing business with companies engaged in this anti-Israel campaign.

Advocates of BDS discrimination remain committed to their anti-Semitic agenda of isolating and demonizing the world’s only Jewish State. Its founders have openly called for Israel’s destruction and made it clear that they target Israel’s existence, not its policies. The Israel Project has worked around the country to educate policymakers and the public about this scourge and to combat it at every turn.

“Governor Cuomo clearly sees through the dishonest effort to single out the democratic state of Israel for discrimination,” said TIP CEO Josh Block. “By signing this executive order, the governor is helping ensure that no New Yorkers have to worry about their tax dollars funding BDS hatred. The people of New York and the people of Israel share an unshakable bond, and this is a powerful demonstration of that longstanding and valuable relationship.”

In a further demonstration of the state’s commitment to Israel, after signing the executive order, Governor Cuomo marched in the Celebrate Israel Parade in New York City.

New York is the tenth state to ban BDS discrimination, following successful legislative efforts in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, Iowa and Alabama.
