MYRTLE BEACH, SC--(Marketwired - June 14, 2016) - The Wall Fellows, a group of top students from Coastal Carolina University, recently visited the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at its headquarters on Parliament Square in London. RICS is a professional body that accredits professionals within the land, property and construction sectors worldwide, and is the world's leading professional body for qualification standards in land, property, infrastructure and construction. It was founded in London as the Institution of Surveyors after a meeting of 49 surveyors at the Westminster Palace Hotel on June 15, 1868.

The visit, which was coordinated by the Grant Center for Real Estate and Economic Development at CCU, was hosted by Ben Elder, global director of valuation for RICS. Elder shared the mission and vision of the RICS organization with the Wall Fellows and discussed the importance of the work they are doing to help drive consistency and ethics among a variety of professions. The visit included an interactive question-and-answer session during which the students asked Elder questions of interest.

"Visiting RICS was a great opportunity for all of us to see, hear and learn about how real estate works," says Geoffrey Guyette, a member of the Wall Fellows Class of 2017. "Mr. Elder gave us an elaborate explanation of how RICS operates, the steps to becoming a member and examples of different projects that RICS has been involved with. It was a pleasure learning about the real estate field."

The Wall Fellows program is designed to prepare top students from all of the colleges of Coastal Carolina University for high-level careers in major U.S. and international organizations. The highly selective leadership development program involves a combination of coursework, individual reading and studying, professional internships, leadership training, project execution and character-building opportunities. Students are chosen for the program through a rigorous application process in the second semester of their sophomore year which starts with a detailed written application and includes three different levels of personal interviews.

The visit with the RICS organization was part of this year's Wall Fellows annual international trip.
