Made in the USA: 5 Great American Cigars

EASTON, PA--(Marketwired - July 06, 2016) - Cigar Advisor, the nation's premiere online cigar magazine, proudly serves cigar enthusiasts with a uniquely down-to-earth perspective on the enjoyment of premium cigars. Timed to coincide with the Independence Day holiday weekend, Cigar Advisor has compiled a cigar buying guide comprised of cigars Made in America. The list, titled "2016 CA Report: 5 Great American Cigars" discusses the American Cigar industry, boutique cigars and highlights the work of a few small, but very prominent cigar factories in Florida; it also provides tasting notes for the 5 American-made premium cigars highlighted in the buying guide.

"They may have Spanish names, but these 5 American cigars are some of the best premiums out there," says Managing Editor John Pullo. He's authored a new Cigar Advisor Report titled "5 Great American Cigars," along with tasting notes for the five brands he's highlighted. In this new Cigar Advisor feature, John recounts our country's unique tobacco history -- and the ensuing American love affair with cigars: "We smoke more of them than just about any other country in the world, and have still been producing them -- and unabashedly enjoying them -- for over 250 years. American cigars were one of the jewels in our nation's manufacturing crown…the sale of tobacco even helped to fund the Revolution," says Pullo.

The Advisor's buying guide selects five premium cigars that all happen to be made in Florida, each of which are manufactured in and around the Miami area. He also points out to three influential cigar factories that are responsible for a large portion of the cigars made today in America. "On Calle Ocho -- Little Havana's 8th Street -- you'll find the esteemed El Titan de Bronze cigar factory," notes Pullo. "They're one of America's go-to tabacaleras for small batch and short run cigars, handmade in all traditional techniques. El Titan employs among the most highly skilled cigar rollers in the world." Two of the cigars on Pullo's list hail from El Titan de Bronze; two others, a Padilla Miami and Tatuaje Miami, are made at Don Jose Pepin Garcia's El Rey de los Habanos. "They roll only a few hundred thousand cigars per year," he writes, "and while they're crafted to taste like Havanas, they're all-American cigars -- made right in the Sunshine state."

John points to these factories, as well as George Rico's G.R. Tabacaleras, as some of the few remaining places carrying on the Great American Cigar Tradition. "In the early 1900's, American cigars were being produced in ridiculous quantity -- by the billions -- in tens of thousands of U.S. cigar factories. Today, it's mostly small shops on back streets and longstanding store fronts that house a few torcedors, rolling and boxing cigars fresh off the bench. Using great tobaccos from around the world, these places gave rise to the boutique class -- the cigars are very Cuban in their construction, but they carry on the great tradition of making American cigars."

Cigar Advisor offers tasting notes for the cigars John has selected, as well as some background on these famous cigar factories. To read the article and learn more, go to CigarAdvisor.com.
