Canadian Heritage, along with exclusive sponsor Manulife, is pleased to present the second season of Northern Lights beginning July 9 at 10:00 p.m. on Parliament Hill.

The free bilingual show, presented on the Peace Tower and Centre Block of Parliament, lets spectators enjoy a one-of-a-kind sensory experience. Thirty minutes of spectacular lighting effects and dazzling projected images, combined with a rich blend of words, music and sound, tell the story of Canada.

As preparations are under way for the celebrations marking Canada's 150th birthday, Northern Lights tells about the key events that have shaped today's Canada.

  • Northern Lights will be presented every evening from July 9 to September 11, 2016, on Parliament Hill.
  • Spectators are invited to bring lawn chairs or a blanket.
  • More than 267,950 spectators attended the first season of Northern Lights in 2015. About half of them came from outside the National Capital Region.
  • The free bilingual show won a Gold Medal from the International Festivals & Events Association in the category of Best Event Video.
  • The sound and light shows on Parliament Hill have captivated the public since 1984, and Northern Lights is the sixth show to be presented.
