Kathryn Richter Joins Sedgwick LLP as Partner

SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce that Kathryn Richter has joined the firm as a partner in its San Francisco office. Richter focuses her practice on leveraging her litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience to counsel clients on domestic and international matters that cover every facet of real estate, engineering and construction litigation; environmental and energy engagements; and manufacturing and product liability matters. She also is experienced in the representation of debtors, secured and unsecured creditors and Chapter 11 Trustees in complex bankruptcy cases involving these issues.

"Kathryn has extensive experience in her field and brings a unique perspective not only as an attorney but as an entrepreneur and founder of an incubator for women and minority-owned businesses," Sedgwick Chair Michael Healy said. "We are thrilled to have her on our team and look forward to all that she will add to our service to clients, our firm and the greater community."

As a litigator with significant experience in California state and federal courts, as well as bankruptcy courts throughout California, Richter has a diverse history of engagements in complex litigation matters across numerous industries and disciplines. She serves as Outside General Counsel to a global, public corporation and has represented municipalities and special districts in matters involving site failures, environmental contamination and water rights and contamination.

Richter has served as primary advisory and defense counsel for regional real estate developers and general contractors and for a publicly held international developer of residential communities and shopping centers, defending numerous complex litigation matters to favorable conclusions over the course of many years. She has been extensively involved in mediation and alternative dispute resolution as an advocate, arbitrator, mediator, and as a special master and private judge, at the request of several courts and parties.

She received her juris doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law and her bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She is a member of the State Bar of California, past co-chair of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation, Northern California Chapter, and is the founder of Adopt-A-Business, a program that helped women and minorities navigate the legal, financial, marketing and industry-specific obstacles they may face when starting a new business.

Prior to Sedgwick, Richter was a partner at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP.
