The Government of Canada supports Startupfest in Montreal

Startupfest, an open window on innovation, returns in 2016 and 2017

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 13, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Mr. David Lametti, MP for LaSalle - Émard - Verdun and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade, announced on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, that the Montreal Startup Foundation was awarded a non-repayable contribution of $150,000 for holding Startupfest in 2016 and 2017.

The decision to award this financial assistance aligns perfectly with the Government of Canada's new vision to make Canada a global centre for innovation and to encourage new investment and future economic growth. By supporting the Montreal Startup Foundation, the Government of Canada is stimulating entrepreneurship and business start-up.

Startupfest, established in 2007, is an annual four-day gathering focused on entrepreneurship, education and new businesses. It brings together experienced entrepreneurs and others wanting to go into business, investors, opinion leaders and giants of the technological world. It is the largest gathering of its kind in Canada.

The project's primary activities target the economic development of official language minority communities in the greater Montréal area and other Quebec regions through business creation and start-up.

CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
