Farsight Security CEO Dr. Paul Vixie Wins Dark Reading's Best of Black Hat Most Innovative Thought Leader Award

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - August 04, 2016) - Farsight Security, Inc. today announced that Internet pioneer and Chairman, CEO and cofounder Dr. Paul Vixie has won Dark Reading's Best of Black Hat Most Innovative Thought Leader Award.

Black Hat USA is taking place July 30-August 4, 2016 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. The Best of Black Hat Awards were presented on August 3 at 6:00 PM from the Business Hall.

Explaining why it selected Dr. Vixie over other finalists for this prestigious award, Dark Reading said in its announcement, "Paul enjoys working, researching and innovating in areas where few others are willing to go. In the last year, Paul has taken some of the lessons he's learned about DNS and the way the internet works, and built Farsight Security, which collects and processes more than 200,000 observations per second to help security operations centers and incident response teams identify threats more quickly. In addition to his work with Farsight Security, he continues to participate in a variety of efforts, including source address validation; the OpSec Trust initiative, which is building a trusted, vetted security community for sharing information, and Internet governance, including the controversial discussion around route name service."

Dr. Vixie was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2014 for work related to DNS. An Internet pioneer, Dr. Vixie recognized early on that security analysts, hunt teams and other security practitioners needed access to critical objective, real-time data to significantly improve detection and response to today's cyberthreats. In 2013, he cofounded Farsight Security to offer the world's largest real-time threat intelligence on changes to the Internet. Farsight's data is used in real-time by large to midsize commercial and government organizations around the world.

Dr. Vixie is a prolific author of open source Internet software including BIND version 8, and of many Internet standards documents concerning DNS and DNSSEC. A serial entrepreneur, he also founded the first anti-spam company (MAPS, 1996), the first non-profit Internet infrastructure software company (ISC, 1994), and the first neutral and commercial Internet exchange (PAIX, 1991).

"I want to thank Dark Reading and Black Hat for this award. We, as an industry, must avoid oversimplified models such as the 'kill chain' and recognize that our adversaries are smart, well-motivated, and highly adaptive. At Farsight, we believe the future of Internet security -- whether it is protecting your favorite IoT-enabled device or healthcare organization -- is real-time observations and reactions. Empowering your organization's security tools and investigations with real-time insights from the changing Internet significantly reduces your risk posture to today's cyberthreats," said Dr. Paul Vixie, Farsight Security CEO.

Farsight Security, Inc. is a Silver Sponsor at 2016 Black Hat USA and is exhibiting at Booth #250. Attendees are invited to stop by to meet Dr. Vixie at the Farsight booth #250 from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Thursday, August 4th, 2016.
