Parks Associates: Over 75% of U.S. Broadband Households Interested in Management Tools and Support for Current Health-Related Need

Research Firm to Host Workshop at Connected Health Summit to Address Consumer Needs and Key Market Issues

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - Aug 11, 2016) - New research from Parks Associates shows 76% of U.S. broadband households want assistance with a health-related need, such as stress management, losing weight, or improving sleep quality. The research firm will examine individual healthcare needs and the capability for technologies to address these demands during the workshop "Addressing Consumer Needs in the Connected Health Market," August 30, prior to the open reception for Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers at the Omni San Diego Hotel.

"Nearly 50% of U.S. broadband consumers would like tools and support to help them lose weight or get into better shape, and over one-third are interested in products and services that can improve overall life quality," said Harry Wang, Senior Research Director, Parks Associates. "Connected health devices are often touted as solutions for these needs, but these technologies need to be targeted to the individual consumer in order to drive sustainable improvement on personal health for the long term. At our workshop, we will discuss consumer segmentation and business strategies that can be used to develop and deploy successful consumer-focused solutions."

The pre-conference workshop takes place 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, and features analyst insights, industry perspectives on healthcare challenges, and an audience Q&A to discuss the IoT solutions that best engage consumers and caregivers and meet the business goals of healthcare providers and insurers. The workshop includes the following sessions:

  • Who Are the Healthcare Consumers? Insights from Parks Associates
  • Understanding the Chronic Care Patient Experience
  • Addressing Chronic Care Challenges through Technologies: Consumer Perspectives
  • Roundtable: Impact of Social Influence on Connected Health, sponsored by higi
  • Independent Living and Connected Home: A Caregiver Perspective
  • Personal Wellness: Devices and Apps for Connected Consumers

Parks Associates and higi will examine how the principles of social influence on connected health are quickly emerging as a new tool to motivate individuals at a mass scale during the 3 p.m. session "Roundtable: Impact of Social Influence on Connected Health."

"As the healthcare industry continues to develop and refine connected health strategies and invest in new technologies, it's critical that we examine the important role social influence has in influencing the health of individuals and communities," said Dr. Khan Siddiqui, Chief Technology and Chief Medical Officer, higi. "Technology is a great connector but can't solve our health challenges alone. We must take into account the principals of persuasive technology, behavioral economics, behavioral psychology, self-determination theory, and gamification to drive behavior change."

The workshop features the following speakers:

  • Jennifer Kent, Director, Research Quality & Product Development, Parks Associates
  • Tom MacTavish, Assistant Professor, IIT Institute of Design
  • Karissa Price, Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Healthways
  • Eric Rock, CEO, Vivify Health

  • Dr. Agnis Stibe, Social Engineer of Persuasive Wellbeing, MIT Media Lab
