Laval's Main Performance Hall Getting a Facelift

The Government of Canada supports the renovation of Salle Andre-Mathieu

LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 11, 2016) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced $600,000 in funding for La Corporation de la salle André-Mathieu for the renovation of the main performance hall in Laval. She was accompanied by Eva Nassif, Member of Parliament (Vimy).

This Government of Canada funding, provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will help improve users' comfort and security, in addition to providing optimal performance conditions for audiences, artists and creators.

  • La Corporation de la salle André-Mathieu is the result of a partnership between between Collège Montmorency and the City of Laval. It serves as an arts presenter and cultural manager in order to foster the promotion of the performing arts in Laval by presenting a variety of performances and activities.
  • Inaugurated in 1979, the Salle André-Mathieu is a large performance hall in the Laval area and hosts the Orchestre symphonique de Laval.
  • The renovation plan includes replacing theatre seats, improving the acoustics, renovating stage entries and the lobby and upgrading entrances and bathrooms, as well as acquiring lighting, stage and digital sound equipment and a band shell.
  • The Quebec Ministry for Culture and Communications, the City of Laval, Collège Montmorrency and Tourisme Laval are also participating in the project.
