Brandeis University Presents 'Graduating from Excel' with Centage Corporation at the 2016 NACUBO Planning and Budgeting Forum

The session will highlight how the university transformed its budgeting processes to enable long-term planning

NATICK, Mass., Aug. 16, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Centage Corporation, a leading provider of next generation budgeting and forecasting software (Budget Maestro) for small and medium-sized businesses, will join customer Brandeis University as a featured speaker at the upcoming National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) 2016 Planning and Budgeting Forum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Taking place Monday, September 19th at 2:30 p.m., the session entitled "Graduating from Excel: How Brandeis University Transformed Its Budgeting Process" will highlight how the university leveraged the automated budgeting system from Centage to save time in budget preparation, deliver timely and accurate financial data, and enable the institution to better plan for the future.

A storied research university of 5,000 students and 2,000 faculty and staff known for its academic excellence, Brandeis University prides itself on offering an innovative and exciting program of learning that emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach. Faced with reducing costs while enhancing efficiency and effectiveness, the university needed to improve its deficient budgeting system and provide managers with better insight into their operating and capital resources to facilitate forecasting and planning.

During the presentation, Kenneth Freda, Kris McKeigue and Angelito Santos of Brandeis University will join Olga Gorenko of Centage Corporation to discuss how the university leveraged Budget Maestro to transform an outdated budgeting and planning process and enable better long-term planning. They will also articulate how, using Budget Maestro, the university was able to structure its chart of accounts, including department hierarchies and program groupings, revise its budget process, and effectively interface with their existing ERP system.

The speakers will also highlight future plans for the system and outline the lessons learned, including:

  • Best practices for evaluating and selecting budgeting systems;
  • Developing an automated budgeting system that works with an enterprise-wide ERP system;
  • Challenges, considerations and best practices for setting up a budgeting system;
  • Visualizing reporting options and strategies.
