MONT-TREMBLANT, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 19, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The IRONMAN triathlons position the region in the tourism niche of international sporting events and align with the tourism industry's "Destination Mont-Tremblant" global development plan.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, David Graham, Member of Parliament for Laurentides-Labelle, today reaffirmed that the Office du Tourisme région Mont-Tremblant (TMT) was awarded $576,638 in funding from the Government of Canada for the promotion of the IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant triathlons in 2016.

TMT is a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure the advertising, promotion and marketing of the Mont-Tremblant region. With regional partners, the organization plays an active role in stimulating the growth of the region's tourism industry, especially among external clienteles. IRONMAN-type triathlons like IRONMAN 5i50, IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN are internationally-recognized sports circuits. In 2014, IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant was awarded one of the most prestigious honours in the world of triathlon-that of "Best Large Triathlon"-by Triathlon Business International.

The funding from CED was granted through the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP) and will serve to promote Mont-Tremblant as a world-class training destination, the economic benefits from which will extend well beyond the hosting of the annual IRONMAN event.

"As well as generating major economic benefits for the region, our support for the commercialization of these triathlons helps build Mont-Tremblant's reputation as a world-class destination. I am very pleased to see Mont-Tremblant play host again this year to the IRONMAN adventure, an event that attracts athletes from around the world and that gives us a unique opportunity to showcase our beautiful region."

David Graham, MP for Laurentides-Labelle

"Tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors worldwide. By supporting sports events like IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant, we are showing our commitment to promoting the growth of an industry whose substantial spinoffs contribute to Canada's economic vitality."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

"For five years now, the Government of Canada has provided invaluable support to IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant that has allowed us to promote the destination on international markets. We are proud to be able to present, here in Quebec, an event of international calibre that has drawn over the years more than 29,000 athletes from 87 different countries."

Dominic Piché, IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant promoter and race director
