espace(im)media: Join us for THE digital art event in Sherbrooke

SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 23, 2016) - September 10 to 25, take part in the digital art event espace[im]média. Presented by Sporobole, centre en art actuel, in partnership with the Art Gallery of the Université de Sherbrooke's Cultural Centre, the 2016 edition will take place downtown Sherbrooke, and on the university's campus. With an experimental approach centred on the relations between the body and technologies, over 20 artworks will be on display!

A rich and diverse program; a series of events in one weekend

Since its first edition, espace[im]media has offered to an informed public, the digital arts community, the local community and participants from all walks of life, the opportunity to experience artworks discussing the artistic, sociological and geopolitical impacts of digital technologies. This year, these digital artworks will be on display for three weeks. However, a series of activities have been grouped during the weekend of September 10 and 11, allowing for a total, intensive and participative immersion for visitors. A large portion of the activities will take place outdoors, thus favoring impromptu and direct contacts between the artworks and the public: art installations in public spaces and in galleries, augmented reality downtown, experimental video, sound performances, 16-track spatialized compositions, guided tours, and much more. Ingenious artists from Canada and the US take part in the event.

espace[im]média 2016 has received financial support by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Conseil des arts du Canada, the City of Sherbrooke and Destination Sherbrooke. The event is produced in partnership with many local organisations and corporations.

About Sporobole

Sporobole (www.sporobole.org) is a centre for the dissemination and production of contemporary art. Using an experiential approach and providing technical support, it acts as a catalyst for artistic inquiry. The centre thereby creates a context for exchange - between creation, dissemination, and reflection - which lends itself to new ways of reading the artistic practices that are developed and presented there. It is thus a place propelling new forms of knowledge on both the technical and discursive levels. Thanks to this context in which presentation and production are combined, Sporobole reasserts the role of artists and their work in the social ecology.
