TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Aug. 30, 2016) - The Board of Directors of Re:Sound have unanimously re-appointed Ian MacKay as President of the music licensing not-for-profit, extending his leadership of the organisation through to 2020.
MacKay was originally appointed to the role of President in 2009, and under his tenure the organisation has more than doubled core revenues, brought in additional revenue sources and developed bilateral relationships with other collecting societies around the world that bring millions of dollars annually back to Canadian rights holders (musicians and record labels). Re:Sound has also completely overhauled its distribution and licensing systems, and achieved record low operating expenses of 14% in 2015.
"Ian has led Re:Sound through a period of profound change and growth. He is a passionate advocate for creators and delivers stellar results for them" said Peter Steinmetz, Chairperson of Re:Sound's Board of Directors. "These are challenging times in the music industry and Ian's unique expertise, energy and commitment are key drivers of Re:Sound's success. The Board looks forward to working with Ian in the coming years to further advance the interests of music creators and continue to be "best in class".
"I am honoured and excited to be leading Re:Sound into the next chapter" said Ian MacKay. "We have a truly great team here - people who live and breathe that everything we do must be for the music creators we represent. With the strong support of the Board, I look forward to working with the Re:Sound team to continue to build an even stronger organization - championing music creators rights and combining an entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for efficiency and transparency. In today's changing music industry, standing still is not an option. We must always move forward."
Prior to joining Re:Sound in 2009, Ian spent many years as a senior executive at Sony Music, and prior to that practiced law at McCarthy Tetrault, where he represented many leading Canadian artists and music creators. In addition to his law degree, Ian holds a Masters Degree in History from Oxford University and a MBA from the Rotman School at University of Toronto.
