Currency Exchange International Announces Financial Results for the Three and Nine Month Periods Ended July 31, 2016


TORONTO, CANADA--(Marketwired - Sept. 7, 2016) - Currency Exchange International, Corp. (the "Company") (TSX:CXI)(OTCBB:CURN), is pleased to announce its financial results and present the management's discussion and analysis ("MD&A") for the three and nine month periods ended July 31, 2016 (all figures are in U.S. dollars except where otherwise indicated). Financial Highlights for the Three Month Period Ended July 31, 2016 compared to the Three Month Period Ended July 31, 2015:

  • Revenues increased 15% or $1.0 million to $7.7 million for the three month period ended July 31, 2016 from $6.7 million for the three month period ended July 31, 2015;
  • Net operating income increased 17% or $372,000 to $2.6 million for the three month period ended July 31, 2016 from $2.2 million for three month period ended July 31, 2015;
  • Net income decreased $603,000 to $1.5 million for the three month period ended July 31, 2016 from $2.1 million for the three month period ended July 31, 2015. The decrease in net income was primarily related to a reduction of $990,000 in income tax payable during the three month period ended July 31, 2015 resulting from the exercise of 176,174 employee and director stock options.
  • Since July 31, 2015, the Company has added 1 new branch location and 408 new client relationships representing 2,483 new transacting locations. Since April 30, 2016, the Company has added 342 new client relationships representing over 1,400 new transacting locations; and
  • During the three month period ended July 31, 2016, transactional activity between the Company and its customers increased 24% to 208,000 transactions from 168,000 for the three month period ended July 31, 2015.

Financial Highlights for the Nine month Period Ended July 31, 2016 compared to the Nine month Period Ended July 31, 2015:

  • Revenues increased 11% or $1.9 million to $19.1 million for the nine month period ended July 31, 2015 from $17.2 million for the nine month period ended July 31, 2015;
  • Net operating income decreased $149,000 to $4.7 million for the nine month period ended July 31, 2016 from $4.8 million for nine month period ended July 31, 2015;
  • Net income decreased $840,000 to $2.3 million for the nine month period ended July 31, 2016 from $3.1 million for the nine month period ended July 31, 2015. The decrease in net operating income and in net income was primarily due to higher expenses for compliance, sales and developing the payments business and a reduction of $990,000 in income tax payable during the three month period ended July 31, 2015 resulting from the exercise of 176,174 employee and director stock options; and
  • During the nine month period ended July 31, 2016, transactional activity between the Company and its customers increased 16% to 493,000 transactions from 426,000 for the nine month period ended July 31, 2015.

Seasonality is reflected in the timing of when foreign currencies are in greater or lower demand. In a normal operating year there is seasonality to the Company's operations with higher revenues generated from March until September and lower revenues from October to February. This coincides with peak tourism seasons in North America when there are generally more travelers entering and leaving the United States and Canada.
