HashiCorp Announces the General Availability of Vault Enterprise for DevOps Security Across Dynamic Infrastructure

Vault Enterprise Empowers Security Teams to Enforce Policies and Secrets Management for Applications and Infrastructure

NAPA, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 7, 2016) - HashiConf User Conference -- HashiCorp, the DevOps infrastructure company, today announced that Vault Enterprise, a complete security solution for DevOps infrastructure, is now generally available. Vault Enterprise builds on Vault open source to enable security teams to define and enforce security policy and secrets management across distributed infrastructure. Vault Enterprise is the security foundation for the HashiCorp DevOps infrastructure suite.

Also today HashiCorp announced $24 million in Series B funding from GGV Capital, Mayfield, Redpoint, and True Ventures: http://www2.marketwire.com/mw/release_html_b1?release_id=1275750.

"The shift to highly elastic, microservice architectures requires a different approach to security. Static network-based security is poorly equipped to handle the dynamic application-centric infrastructures being built today," said Armon Dadgar, co-founder and CTO of HashiCorp. "Vault Enterprise enables organizations to adopt DevOps practices in their approach to security and keep pace with development and operations teams that are adopting DevOps."

The announcement of Vault Enterprise comes with the launch of new collaboration features:

1. UI for managing secrets: Vault Enterprise provides a user interface that allows security teams to manage Vault secrets through one access controlled portal. This enables security teams to safely make changes to secrets and quickly respond to changing security environments.

2. Health alerts and monitoring: Teams can now monitor and receive alerts on the status of their Vault servers. Since Vault rests at the epicenter of infrastructure, it is essential to have immediate visibility into its status to ensure infrastructure is always secure and available.

3. Vault init and seal workflow: Vault Enterprise provides an intuitive workflow for initializing new Vault clusters, distributing key shares, and managing the unseal process across a team.

These features join the existing Vault Enterprise policy-validation feature:

  • Hardware Security Module (HSM) integration: Vault Enterprise integrates with HSMs so developers can use Vault's simple API to develop against instead of complex HSM interfaces. This enables organizations to more easily comply with regulatory requirements that require HSMs for advanced security.

"Deploying enterprise software to both public and private cloud infrastructure requires a security solution that works everywhere. As we adopt DevOps practices that make our applications and infrastructure more dynamic, we need bullet-proof security," said John Mitchell, Architect at SAP Ariba. "HashiCorp's Vault is the only offering that meets these requirements -- one workflow across providers and dynamic secrets management."

HashiCorp DevOps Infrastructure aligns development, operations, and security to accelerate application delivery
DevOps is a path, not a platform. Proper security is the first step in a successful DevOps journey, followed by operations and development. HashiCorp's suite of DevOps infrastructure is the technology which enables this transformation.

  • Vault Enterprise empowers security teams to collaborate, validate, and enforce security policies
  • Terraform Enterprise empowers operations teams to collaborate, validate, and provision infrastructure
  • Nomad Enterprise empowers development teams to collaborate, validation, and deploy applications
  • Consul Enterprise empowers all teams to monitor the complete stack

These modular design of HashiCorp products allows organizations to take the DevOps journey one step at a time.
