Abbyson Living Gives Back to the Community With A Sense of Home

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - September 22, 2016) - When a child ages out of the foster care system, they're left with no stability and no foundation to build a life from; 50 percent go through a period of homelessness, and 1 in 5 never find a home at all -- and those who do only get empty apartments, left to live their daily lives from an uncomfortable bare floor. Abbyson Living is looking to change that. The company has recently become the main partner with Los Angeles-based A Sense of Home, an organization helping kids who age out of foster care make their home more than just a place to sleep, instead making it a solid base for their life by filling it with donated furnishings and a sense of permanence.

Abbyson has donated 150 sofas to A Sense of Home -- about a year's supply for the organization -- and other pieces of furniture, including chairs, armoires, and tables. One of the sofas and a coffee table were recently featured on the Steve Harvey Show's episode about the organization as well, when A Sense of Home was named one of the Harvey's Heroes and received a $10,000 donation from Clarks Shoes. The organization and its owner were also honored as a CNN Hero earlier this month, a designation that highlights individuals striving to make a difference in their community and making extraordinary humanitarian aid contributions.

"Everything in the homes we create is donated," Georgie Smith, founder of A Sense of Home, said. "We like to create a very inspired environment so the youth can feel as successful as their environment. The elegance and quality of the Abbyson furniture is fantastic. It complements all of the donated items and adds to the dignity of what we're trying to do for the youth."

In the past two years since its founding, A Sense of Home has created 120 homes and placed 180 youth in beds. Some judges are now requiring enrollment in the organization for foster program youth.

"We believe in helping our community, giving back wherever and whenever we can," Yavar Rafieha, Abbyson Living's President, said. "If Abbyson products can bring someone happiness, we definitely want to be part of changing their lives. We take great pride in partnering with A Sense of Home to make a better life for those who need it."
