InnServices and Lystek Execute Agreement to Implement Advanced Biosolids Management Solution at Lakeshore WPCP

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario, Oct. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Attention: Municipal, environmental, waste & recycling, agricultural & business reporters/editors

InnServices Utilities Inc. (InnServices) and leading biosolids and organics solutions provider, Lystek International Inc. (Lystek) have executed a formal agreement to implement award-winning biosolids management solutions by Lystek at the Lakeshore Water Pollution Control Plant in Innisfil, Ontario.

Currently, the Lakeshore WPCP is a stand-alone treatment plant, serving the community with a design rated capacity of 14.7 MLD. In 2011, the Town completed the Innisfil Lakeshore WPCP Expansion Environmental Study. The study and subsequent analysis by InnServices concluded that the historical Class B biosolids storage and "disposal" program would not be suitable to keep pace with future growth due to constraints around current and future biosolids storage capacity and other considerations required to scale the current plant to 25 MLD and eventually, to a target of 40 MLD.

The analysis also concluded that if the historical, Class B biosolids management approach was continued, it would be further impacted by seasonal challenges and other restrictions imposed on Class B programs. With these factors in mind and estimated costs for the plant upgrades at $7.1 million and $6.74 million (2011 dollars) for the 25 MLD and 40 MLD expansions respectively, it was recognized that improvements in biosolids management would have to be a key consideration in expansion planning. InnServices decided it needed a new plan; one that would move the community forward with reduced biosolids volumes, intelligent use of existing infrastructure, better control over future capital improvement costs and higher and better use of its biosolids resources.

InnServices found answers to all of the above challenges with the Lystek Thermal Hydrolysis Process (Lystek THP). As it turns out, a growing number of communities in Canada and the U.S. had already investigated and implemented this solution, based on findings of lower lifecycle costs and improved environmental performance. At a total cost of $5.17 million, the Lystek system will not only meet all of the Town's immediate needs, but by simply extending the operating hours of the fully automated system (as required), meet peak demand in the future as well with no need for any additional storage tanks or buildings. It also moves the plant forward to producing a pathogen-free, federally registered, Class A quality fertilizer product (LysteGro) that can be sold; not given away or treated as "waste".

Andy Campbell, President & CEO of InnServices states that; "It is projected that demands on this facility could triple over the next 20 years. Selection of the Lystek system will play a key role in our plan to upgrade and expand the facility and alleviate concerns with the current and future operational bottlenecks related to biosolids management. Lystek offers a proven, reliable, year-round solution that will move us forward - from disposal to resource recovery with substantial cost savings."

"We are honored to have been chosen to work with InnServices on this future-forward project," says Kurt Meyer, President of Lystek. We are proud to offer pragmatic solutions that save vital funding while reducing "waste" and contributing to the healthy growth of communities like Innisfil," he adds.

About InnServices:

InnServices Utilities Inc. is an exciting new company created by the Town of Innisfil to deliver water and wastewater services to Innisfil and other municipalities. On June 17, 2015 Council adopted a Business Case for the creation of InnServices Utilities Inc., a Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) and utility for water and wastewater servicing. As part of the public process for considering the MSC, the Town gathered input from the community. Consultations were held and open to the general public at a Town Hall Open House, and also with the development community and business groups. On January 1, 2016, the Town transferred the water and wastewater assets, including two water pollution control plants, one surface water treatment plant, municipal wells and the associated collection and distribution systems to InnServices. InnServices is also tasked with building over $200 million in new infrastructure which will generate growth, economic development, and bring local jobs to Innisfil.

About Lystek:

Lystek International Inc. is a leading provider of low temperature, Thermal Hydrolysis solutions for the sustainable management of biosolids and organics. The multi-use, award-winning Lystek system reduces costs, volumes and GHG's by converting municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities into resource recovery centers. This is achieved through the patented and proven LysteMizeTM process of optimizing digester performance, increasing biogas for green energy, and transforming organic waste streams into LysteGroTM, a high-value, nutrient-rich biofertilizer and LysteCarbTM, an alternative carbon source for BNR systems.
