NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Oct 26, 2016) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 1st Edition Systems Integration Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The new report provides an in-depth look at the important role systems integrators take in the delivery of business intelligence (BI), advanced analytics, and planning and budgeting solutions. It discusses the attitudes and behaviors of organizations that engage systems integrators (SIs) and their estimation of the industry's performance.

A systems integrator, or consultancy, is a person or company that specializes in assembling component subsystems into a whole and ensuring that those subsystems function together. SIs may work in many fields but the term is generally used in the information technology (IT) field, the defense industry, or in media.

"In some areas, our research shows alignment with what many have thought about SIs and their customers, specifically the driving value of expertise within an external consulting organization," said Bill Hostmann, research fellow at Dresner Advisory Services and the report's primary author. "Other findings were less intuitive, such as those showing the high performance of small and mid-sized SIs, and the important role the BI competency center plays in engaging with SIs."

The Systems Integration Market Study examines multiple angles of SI engagement practices, including categories of SIs, referral sources, project types, budget allocation, pricing preferences, and criteria for selection. The most popular projects sought with systems integrators are for business intelligence, with IT and executive management most likely to engage SIs for BI. Global systems integrators are preferred for advanced analytics projects.

The report also looks at industry performance for SIs, specifically quality of methodology, solutions, project management, and consulting services, as well as SI effectiveness and viability. In nearly all industry measures and rankings, small and mid-sized systems integrators out performed large global vendors.

"While we have always been mindful of the important role SIs take in the delivery of BI, advanced analytics, and budgeting and planning solutions, our Systems Integration Market Study represents a new area of comprehensive study for us," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "We're excited to add the SI report to our continually expanding research agenda to provide another point of view of the BI and analytics market."

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market. To purchase a copy of the 2016 Systems Integration Market Study, visit
