CAMARILLO, Calif., Nov. 01, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced that its LoRa® devices and Wireless RF Technology will be used in a new low power, wide area network (LPWAN) deployed across Ireland called Pervasive Nation. The nationwide network is a program of CONNECT, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Center for Future Networks and Communications, headquartered at the world-famous Trinity College Dublin. The LoRaWAN network will be used to facilitate Internet of Things (IoT) research and innovation.

Semtech LoRa Technology was chosen for its extensive feature set that includes long-range capability and long battery lifetime for end-devices. It also offers geolocation, deep signal penetrability, and adherence to the open, standardized LoRaWAN protocol. The network design and management is a collaborative effort by Davra Networks, a cloud-based software provider, OrbiWise, a leading provider of infrastructure solutions for IoT, and the CONNECT Centre at Trinity College Dublin, which will manage the program. CONNECT aims to use Pervasive Nation to catalyze IoT research and development in Ireland.
LoRa Technology aims to improve day-to-day activities for both consumers and enterprises by automating processes ranging from public infrastructure to domestic applications. CONNECT’s Pervasive Nation will be used, for example, to improve campus management by monitoring temperature in buildings and lighting control.
