World Press Photo 16: Eyes on the world at the Pulperie de Chicoutimi

CHICOUTIMI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 3, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Tourism is an excellent opportunity for economic diversification on the national and regional levels. The Government of Canada's funding for cultural events is an effective way to support actions that generate significant economic and media spinoff in the regions hosting the events.

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, took the opportunity of the official opening of World Press Photo 16, as part of Zoom Photo Festival Saguenay, to announce that Groupe Photo Média International has been granted $60,000, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, under the Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP).

The funding will help the organization continue its commercialization activities outside Quebec over the next two years.

Since 2010, Groupe Photo Média International has been organizing Zoom Photo Festival Saguenay, a key meeting of photographers who work for the largest Canadian and international publications. This international event is open to photojournalists, both amateur and professional, and features conferences, seminars, evening film screenings, workshops and exhibitions dealing with photojournalism, including World Press Photo, throughout the month of November. Attracting a growing number of amateur and professional photographers, journalists, and museum and art gallery directors, the festival enhances the Saguenay Region's tourism offering and generates significant economic and media spinoff.

Quote

"Few industries are growing at such a dramatic pace as tourism, a driving force for job creation. Zoom Photo Festival is a unique invitation to discover the great talent of the artists and get a glimpse of life here and elsewhere. By obtaining exposure both in Canada and beyond its borders, this cultural showcase is a boon for the Saguenay region."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED
