WESTPORT, CT--(Marketwired - Nov 16, 2016) - SAP SuccessFactors President Mike Ettling tells Bill Kutik that the enduring connection between HCM and financial software systems is the key to running any business.

Ettling tells Kutik: "If you think of business, forget all the MBA textbooks, forget all the books which have been written on business and management. There are really only two levers or two stick shifts you can pull. One is people; the other is money."
"[Coordinating them is] like driving a stick shift car," Ettling says. "Any CEO, any leader, has to be very cognizant of how to pull those levers to get the results."
Ettling also takes a strong stance on the controversial topic of performance management, saying that it needs to be a high-quality, continuous conversation, rather than a once-a-year appraisal.
Finally he comes down firmly on the side of work/life blend, after Kutik points out that Ettling himself took chunks of time for paternity leave after the recent birth of his daughter.
