Acton brings a unique blend of high-level commercial and government service experience, including more than 10 years in challenging national/homeland security positions as a Coast Guard admiral and member of the Senior Executive Service. Most recently, he served as Chief Learning Officer (Acting) and Deputy Chief Learning Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, overseeing learning and development programs, as well as department-wide policy and strategic direction. Acton also has 25 years of general and marketing management, change management and client account and field sales management experience in the private sector.

He also has a broad spectrum of consulting, telecommunications, consumer product and Internet startup experience in the commercial market, including supporting organizations such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay, BellSouth Mobility and the America's Cup sailboat races.
