Company Increases Capabilities for Apparel Companies, Environmental Designers, and Beyond
PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - December 15, 2016) - PVS In-Store Graphics (PVS), the raucous Portland company that is part art studio, part production warehouse, announced that it became the first in the Pacific Northwest to commission an EFI VUTEk FabriVU 340 dye-sub fabric printing system. It began production at its NW Industrial headquarters in Portland last month.
The new, 3.4-meter wide printer performs at the highest standard for Pantone-accurate, deep color saturation at ultra-high resolutions up to 2,400 dpi at speeds up to 5,381 square feet per hour. PVS is constantly innovating for its clients' demands in environmental design, including high-end retail, trade-shows, and experiential brand installations. The EFI VUTEk FabriVU will also allow it to push into apparel quality and durability in fabric printing.
Since its founding in 1991, PVS has forged itself as a secret weapon for some of the greatest creative minds in apparel, footwear, retail, and creative agencies in the Pacific Northwest. PVS is always experimenting and pushing boundaries to achieve client service with some of the brightest talent in the market, and continually investing in cutting edge technologies to maintain an edge. Always upping the ante, it has expanded into dye-sub fabric printing using the EFI's environmentally friendly, water-based sublimation inks, opening yet another dimension for the future of the company.
"We are involved in the most technically complex production jobs for the largest brands in the world, so we like to keep it interesting around here -- to push beyond what we could do last year," said Wes Shinn, co-owner at PVS. "As a long-time partner of EFI, we knew this printer would expand our value to our clients and decided that the time was right for the investment."
PVS added three highly experienced personnel with the expansion into the new technology, which moves into a central position in the company's 30,000 SF warehouse. The new printer is expected to increase company revenues by an estimated 30 percent with the production of soft signage, which is quickly becoming the standard in retail environments because it's easy to update, handle and ship. The company had previously outsourced portions of its client work that involved fabric printing. PVS prides itself on accomplishing the seemingly impossible in the face of market demand for impeccable graphic application and tight deadlines.
The nearly $1M investment in equipment and infrastructure for this 38 person company is a far cry from the $500 loan founders Nick Olson and Jim Fletcher received to compete for their first job -- using tombstone cutting equipment -- to set up shop in the Cedar Mill suburb of Portland in 1991. 25 years later, the company's résumé includes specialized production of packaging for world-renowned athletes and the creation of the most theatrical brand experiences in cities across the globe.
