Woodside Animal Clinic Celebrates Dr. John Simon’s 50 Years of Practicing Veterinary Care

ROYAL OAK, Mich., March 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dr. John Simon is announcing that 2017 will be his 50th year of veterinary practice. After graduating from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967, he purchased Woodside Animal Clinic in 1970, where he has worked as a solo practitioner for the past 47 years. He has been a past president of the Oakland County Veterinary Medical Association and was also on the board of directors of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.

He became Detroit’s first certified veterinary acupuncturist in 1982 and was amongst a very small group of veterinarians who attended the very first meeting of the American Association of Avian Practitioners that met in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dr. Simon went on to become Southeastern Michigan’s first certified veterinary chiropractor and has just received a certificate of recognition in appreciation for 20 years of commitment and contribution to animal chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Dr. Simon was also the first Michigan veterinarian to perform stem cell therapy on a dog.

Dr. Simon wrote a weekly pet health care column for 10 years in the Royal Oak Tribune and was the creator of the award-winning, monthly cable television program, “Your Pet’s Good Health”. He also received an award for creating “People, Pets, and Vets” which went on to become a permanent part of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association’s public relations program.

During his accomplished veterinary career, Dr. Simon wrote three books: What Your Dog is Trying to Tell You; What Your Cat is Trying to Tell You, and Anti-Aging for Dogs. He has just finished a yet to be published book entitled, Holistic Health Care for Pets and People.

“I am very happy that I entered the profession at the time I did because it gave me the chance to experience the profession during its more ‘romantic’ days when the old time practitioners were the ‘great generalists’ who had to treat every type of animal and every type of medical problem that walked through their door,” explains Dr. Simon. “It’s been an incredible experience to serve the pets of the community for all these years and it’s work that I have been very proud to do.”
