MDLIVE Offers Free Virtual Care Services to Individuals Impacted by Hurricane Irma

Sunrise, Fla., Sept. 07, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MDLIVE, a leading virtual medical and behavioral healthcare provider, today announced that it is waiving fees for virtual medical and behavioral health services for those impacted by Hurricane Irma in the state of Florida. Those affected who are in need of non-emergency medical attention can access MDLIVE at no cost. In addition, MDLIVE is partnering with AvMed, one of Florida’s largest not-for-profit health plans providing coverage in more than 30 counties across the state, to provide AvMed Virtual Visits powered by MDLIVE to members.

With many areas under evacuation, including Sunrise, Florida, where MDLIVE is headquartered, it can become increasingly difficult or even impossible for individuals to obtain health services at a physical location, such as a physician’s office or urgent care center. The inclement weather threat may cause damage to roads, public and private transportation, and healthcare facilities, creating barriers for those who need to connect with a doctor. As a member of the South Florida community, MDLIVE is prepared to serve individuals throughout the state who are in need of care.

Individuals impacted by Hurricane Irma in need of non-emergency medical attention can call MDLIVE at (888) 959-9516 to connect with a board-certified physician or counselor to schedule one virtual visit at no charge. These sessions will be conducted via phone or video, however video visits require access to a web browser or iOS or Android device.

MDLIVE's board-certified physicians and counselors are trained to treat a wide range of both medical and behavioral health conditions through virtual care. There are well known conditions unique to post-hurricanes/floods, of which virtual care can serve as a valuable resource. These include: skin coming in contact with infectious materials from sewage systems; bug bites, such as those from bees, mosquitoes and other animal bites; behavioral health/mental health issues that can intensify with stress levels, anxiety and depression during a storm of this magnitude; and medication refills for those who due to flooding, may not have access to their primary care physician to help.

The free virtual care services offer is valid for one free session, one-time per person. Individuals can learn more information here.
