NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 07, 2017) - With an entirely volunteer troop of passionate sports fans yet again spreading the joy of Game Day, Special Spectators announces that Bob Stoops, legendary Big 12 former University of Oklahoma Coach, has joined its Board. The move comes as the organization readies another record season of nearly 50 all-access experiences for seriously ill children, officially opening its season on September 9th at Duke, Illinois, Michigan State, UCLA and Virginia Tech. Full schedule available here.

"I am excited and honored to join the board of Special Spectators. This organization has been very special to me and to children in Oklahoma who are fighting incredible battles," said Stoops. "These kids have inspired me and my teams in so many ways over the years, and I am thrilled to be able to serve them in this capacity."

As the organization plans nearly 50 events this season, sponsorships, corporate and private donations will fuel the charity's expansion and further enhance the already remarkable signature experience, enabling Special Spectators to play a significant role in the lives of even more seriously ill children this season and beyond. Special Spectators is known for hosting these special game day experiences at collegiate athletic events nationwide, and has served nearly 10,000 patients, parents and siblings to date at nearly 400 Game Days.

"This season marks our 16th serving incredible children in communities all over the country, and it's honestly deeply moving and means so much that Coach Bob Stoops, someone who shares our love of these children, is joining me and my team on this journey," said Special Spectators Founder and Executive Director Blake Rockwell. "Coach has been so good to the children of Special Spectators and to us. We are thrilled to be working with him, as we head into another action packed season."

With opening weekend just around the corner, the charity is in the process of finalizing its 16th season hosting seriously ill children and their families at VIP all-access events nationwide. In addition to long-standing events with committed partners such as Stoops' own University of Oklahoma -- as well as Northwestern University, Illinois and Alabama -- Special Spectators will be hosting unforgettable experiences at many others, across all conferences and in local communities nationwide.

In addition to the current schedule, there are many schools whose Athletic Departments have committed for 2017, whose specific Game Day dates will be added to the schedule in the coming weeks.
