SB 258 Marks Significant Progress Toward Building a Healthier Tomorrow for People and Planet

Burlington, Vermont, UNITED STATES

BURLINGTON, Vt., Sept. 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Seventh Generation, a leading household and personal care products company and pioneer in the environmentally conscious products space, celebrates the passing of the Cleaning Product Right to Know Act (SB 258) by California lawmakers as a historical moment for the cleaning industry and the rights of consumers and workers. The legislation will require manufacturers of cleaning products to disclose all intentionally added ingredients online and on pack by 2020.

“It was nearly ten years ago that Seventh Generation pledged to voluntarily disclose our ingredients on pack, an unprecedented move for its time, and we are proud to see how far the industry has moved since then. We believe consumers have the right to know what is in the products they’re using in and around the places they live and work, and we applaud the dedication of Senator Ricardo Lara and the tireless work of our NGO partners, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, the Environmental Working Group and Women’s Voices for the Earth, in making this a reality,” said Joey Bergstein, Chief Operating Officer at Seventh Generation. “While we celebrate the passing of SB 258, we also understand our work is far from over and will use this momentum to continue working to move similar legislation state-to-state and at the federal level.”

Seventh Generation has championed ingredient disclosure for many years, as the first company in the household products industry to voluntarily clearly print ingredients in plain language on its packaging, and has spent the last decade working with NGO partners to support legislation that advocates for ingredient transparency. The company rigorously reviews the health and safety profile of its ingredients and lists them right on product labels (including fragrance ingredients) to empower consumers’ right to know what they are using around their homes and families.
