Small Business Week: Online “WSPS Small Business Centre” Makes Health and Safety Simple

Mississauga, ON, Oct. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In celebration of Small Business Weeki (October 15 – 21), Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) is launching its refreshed online Small Business Centre. Offering easy-to-use, complimentary resources, the centre is the perfect catalyst for small businesses (those with 1 to 49 employees) looking to develop their health and safety programs.

The WSPS Small Business Centre offers road maps specifically designed for small business owners. With the click of a button they can select the size of their businesses and they will be pointed to the resources that fit their needs. This is a considerable time-saver for owners and managers who must juggle many roles. “Business owners and operators will appreciate the simplicity of the Small Business Centre,” says Lynn Brownell, WSPS President and CEO. “It has downloadable and customizable time-saving tools that are geared towards the needs of small business owners.”

Featuring tools such as safety checklists, training tips for workers, workplace violence and harassment policy templates and WHMIS information, the site offers plenty of health and safety assistance to small businesses.

The new Centre is suitable for all small businesses, whether they are just starting their health and safety journey or are looking to stay connected to changing legislation.  “We’ve really focused on core compliance requirements,” says WSPS Consultant Kirsi Henry. “Whether you want to enhance your program or you have an MOL order to comply with, our Small Business Centre can help.”

Among the new resources found on the site are awareness videos and posters aimed at reducing on-the-job injuries experienced by new and young workers. “Pay particular attention to your new and young workers,” advises Henry. “These are employees who are under 25 or are new to the type of work they are doing. They have a higher risk of injury and are the most likely to be injured within the first month on the job.” Last year, 2,431 new and young workers in Ontario were absent from work due to injury in their first 30 days of employment.ii
