Dear Journalist,
The International Energy Agency would like to invite you to a press conference with Dr Fatih Birol, the IEA executive director, on Thursday 16 November at 2:00PM held at the COP23, in Bonn. The format is a 30-minute question-and-answer session.
Dr Birol is available to answer questions on variety of energy and climate-related topics, including findings from the IEA's World Energy Outlook 2017 report, released on Tuesday, and what governments can do to meet their commitments to the Paris Agreement
In the WEO-2017 analysis, the IEA introduced a new pathway to meet three critical policy goals: lower greenhouse gas emissions, cleaner air and universal access to modern energy. The analysis presents a way to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement that is compatible with expanding energy access and reducing air pollution - objectives that are often key drivers of energy policy in many places, particularly emerging countries (iea.org/WEO2017)
The IEA is also significantly scaling up its work with key emerging economies to accelerate their energy transitions, through its Clean Energy Transitions Programme. This initiative is part of the IEA's modernisation strategy to strengthen its role as a hub for clean energy and further open its doors to emerging economies.
The IEA, the world's leading energy authority, is a provider of data, analysis, and real-world solutions for the global energy transition, and is committed to helping its Member Countries as well as partners around the world define and implement clean-energy policies.
