13 December 2017

WHAT: Webinar for the launch of the IEA's Coal 2017 report

WHEN: 14 December, 2017, 4 PM Paris time

WHO: Keisuke Sadamori, IEA Director of Energy Markets & Security

The International Energy Agency is organizing a media webinar under embargo for the release of Coal 2017, the annual market analysis and forecast (formerly the Medium-Term Coal Market Report).

The future of coal - the world's dominant fuel for more than a century - continues to be one of the most pressing questions on the energy scene. Coal is under pressure in many regions of the world for its contribution to greenhouse gases. It is squeezed out in power generation by cheap and abundant natural gas and fast-growing renewables whose costs are also plummeting.

But in many parts of Asia, including India, coal consumption is growing. The IEA's Coal 2017 market and analysis report provides a comprehensive analysis of recent trends and forecast through 2022 of coal demand, supply and trade, both at global and regional level. The insights in the report help to explain the current developments in coal markets and provide a window into the fuel's future over the next five years.

To register, please contact press@iea.org. The report and contents of the webinar will be under embargo until 9:00 AM Paris time, Monday, 18 December.
