Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2017 Big Data Analytics Market Study

Nashua, New Hampshire, UNITED STATES

NASHUA, N.H., Dec. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2017 Big Data Analytics Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The 3rd annual report examines end user trends and intentions surrounding big data analytics, defined as systems that enable end-user access to and analysis of data contained and managed within the Hadoop ecosystem.

According to the 2017 study, telecommunications and financial services are the leading industry adopters, with 87 percent and 76 percent respectively reporting current usage. Current adoption of big data is notably strongest within very large organizations. Data warehouse optimization remains the top use case for big data, followed by customer/social analysis and predictive maintenance.

“Across the three years of our comprehensive study of big data analytics, we see a significant increase in uptake in usage and a large drop of those with no plans to adopt,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “In 2017, IT has emerged as the most typical adopter of big data, although all departments – including finance – are considering future use. This is an indication that big data is becoming less an experimental endeavor and more of a practical pursuit within organizations.”

Compared to 2016, industry sentiment has shifted. A majority (51 percent) of vendors say big data is “critical”, up from 47 percent in 2016. However, 21% say it is only “somewhat important”, a significant increase over 2016 (9%). This is likely an indication that most industry vendors have now brought products to market, establishing a new equilibrium between supply and demand for big data technologies.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.  To purchase a copy of the 2017 Big Data Analytics Market Study, visit www.bigdataanalyticsreport.com.
