Trusted LASIK Surgeons™: Tips on Using a Flexible Spending Account to Pay for LASIK or Another Vision Correction Surgery Procedure

Las Vegas, Nevada, UNITED STATES

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Trusted LASIK Surgeons™ reminds prospective patients with Flexible Spending Account (FSA) who are considering LASIK or other vision correction surgery to check the policies of their FSA provider to see if they can benefit by using their 2017 FSA contribution to help pay for their vision correction procedure.

Patients with a Health Savings Account (HSA) can also use those funds towards their vision correction surgery procedure.

With an FSA or HSA, patients can use these pre-tax dollars to in effect give them around a 20% to 30% discount to reduce the cost of their eye surgery.

Vision correction surgery typically covered by FSA and HSA plans includes laser eye surgery procedures like LASIK and PRK, cataract surgery, lens implants (including premium IOLs), the Kamra Inlay procedure (corneal inlay), and astigmatic incisions, among others.

Some FSA providers offer a grace period consisting of a two-and-a-half month extension, which gives you until March 15, 2018, to use your 2017 contributions to your FSA.  Other FSA providers offer a carryover”, which allows you to carry over up to $500 to use in the following year.  FSA providers can do one of the above options, but not both.  Some providers may limit the grace period option to less than two-and-a half-months.

In addition, you should always check with your specific FSA or HSA provider to ensure that the specific vision correction surgery is covered under your plan.

If you have unused funds from your 2017 FSA contributions, Trusted LASIK Surgeons™ strongly recommends that you check the specific rules of your FSA provider and contact your FSA provider directly.

If your employer offers an FSA or an HSA, Trusted LASIK Surgeons™ recommends looking into one of these options. With an HSA or FSA, you can use tax-free money toward medical expenses not typically covered by your health insurance, such as LASIK and other vision correction surgery procedures and elective options (like laser-assisted cataract surgery).  Check with your employer to learn more about the enrollment terms and policies concerning any FSA or HSA offered.

“Now can be a great time for those patients to use any unused funds from their 2017 FSA for LASIK or another elective vision correction surgery procedure before those funds are forfeited.  Patients with FSA and HSA accounts cannot only apply these tax saving funds to the cost of their vision correction procedure, but selecting a LASIK or cataract surgeon from Trusted LASIK Surgeons™, they can get the best vision care from an eye surgeon with proven expertise and professional accomplishments.”
