“Our conference content is designed with one goal in mind—to give our attendees the tools, knowledge and access to industry leaders that will inform how they do business and shape their strategies for tackling new opportunities in the medical design and manufacturing world,” said Nina Brown, vice president of events, UBM. “Our attendees will walk away from any of our conference sessions with practical knowledge they can use immediately, ideas to inspire them moving forward, and insight on future trends that will enable them to be early adopters and innovators in their industries.”

Key session highlights at the 2018 conference include:

There is a lot of conversation today about the rise of the consumer as a newly empowered stakeholder in the country’s healthcare system. We have a system today where patients feel they have more information and more choice. Health reforms and new technologies are, to some degree, starting to put the patient in the driver’s seat. But the healthcare system is not a market, and patients are not consumers. What will it take to get it right? Come hear Dr. Jordan Shlain share his viewpoint about what he feels are the important ingredients and next steps for a better patient experience.

A recent Cedars-Sinai study found that virtual reality therapy helps decrease pain in hospitalized patients. Based on this study, Cedars-Sinai is now conducting a larger trial to measure the impact of virtual reality on the use of pain medications, length of hospital stays and post-discharge satisfaction scores. Dr. Vartan Tashjian will take the audience into an in-depth discussion on the experience of utilizing virtual reality technology to care for hospitalized patients.

Although there is a process for commercializing a medical device, it feels like an art rather than a science. Commercialization is complex and cross-functional, but yet, emotional as an inventor’s vision, passion, and perseverance are engaged. Come hear about the Cleveland Clinic’s innovative journey and find out where you should start on the path to commercialization.

High-tech devices are all around us. What used to be science fiction is now reality, and as technology evolves, our gadgets and widgets are getting smaller and smarter. In the process, they become something personal, and we even interact with them on a personal level. This interaction depends not just on the user interface, but also on some basic issues of shape and form, color, and texture, and the materials used. As consumer and medical technologies converge, how do we go about designing the devices of the future?

MD&M West runs alongside four other events including Automation Technology Expo (ATX) West, Pacific Design & Manufacturing, PLASTEC West, and WestPACK. To view the full conference schedule please click here.

Partners at the 2018 event include American Mold Builders Association, California Life Sciences Association (booth 913), Flexible Packaging Association, Plastics Industry Association, Precision Metalforming Association, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
