Taipei, Taiwan, Feb. 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival, which opened Feb.16 in Chiayi under the auspices of Chiayi County government, is providing a window through which visitors could see Taiwan and the rest of the world.
As a world-class festival, many artists from Mino city and the prefectures of Niigata, Shizuoka and Chiba of Japan, Singapore and India have been invited to showcase their own lanterns at the “International and Friendship Area” in the Southern Branch of the Palace Museum, which has been famous for its collection of Asian cultural and historical relics.
While walking around the courtyard of the museum, visitors were able to watch the lanterns with various characters presented by artists of those Asian nations.
When walking into the entrance door of the museum, Visitors could see 100 Japanese paper lamps from Mino city, beaming weak light and arranged in the shape of Chinese character “Yazhou (Asia)” . The paper lamps fully demonstrated Japanese rigorous craftsmanship by combining traditional style and modern fashion.
In the shape of red torii and Mount Fuji, Shizuoka’s lanterns made every visitor easily know where they were from. The mascot of Chiba, ”Mr. Chiba” illuminating at night with big strawberries in hands, made visitors feel the joy of picking strawberries.
Niigata’s lanterns featured its local famous products – sake. The prefecture’s mascot “TOKKIKKI”, who was greeting the visitors at the site, along with the map of air route between Japan and Taiwan, witnessed the deep friendship between the two countries.
The Singapore Lamps area featured wall lanterns in the shape of animals, representing the joyful atmosphere of the moon festival in that city state’s Chinatown.
In the International Area, candles were lighted up along the road, which together with a “sea of wisteria flowers”, symbolized the meet of the Chinese Yellow River civilization and India’s Ganges civilization. The interaction of old civilizations and modern art became visitors’ most colorful and romantic memory of 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Chiayi.
