Canadian Global Affairs Institute Hosts Insightful Speaker Dinner, Featuring Conrad Black

Lord Black Shares his Take on Canada – U.S. Relations in the Age of Trump

CALGARY, Alberta, March 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Last night, the Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI) welcomed more than 300 attendees to its inaugural speaker dinner at the Westin Calgary. The event featured keynote speaker and business mogul, Lord Conrad Black, who shared his thoughts on Canada – U.S. relations in the age of Trump.

“We were pleased to host Lord Black at our event last night,” said Kelly Ogle, President, CGAI. “As part of our mission to help inform Canadians on the connection between international affairs and a secure and prosperous Canada, we secure subject matter experts for our speaker dinners to provide interesting views and discourse on global affairs issues that affect Canada. Lord Black is known for his political and economic perspectives and raised a number of thought-provoking points regarding the state of Canada – U.S. relations today.”

The evening included a panel discussion with Lord Conrad Black and Colin Robertson, Vice President, CGAI, followed by a question and answer period that provided attendees the opportunity to ask questions thereby encouraging additional exploration and debate of the evening's topic.

“The current American and Canadian leaders could scarcely be more different in policy goals and temperament. The result of the divergent paths and methods of the two governments, and the contrast between widespread public irritation in the United States with that country’s previous twenty years of trade and immigration policies and the more cheerful Canadian political mood has created unusual uncertainty in the normally stable relations between the countries. I was pleased with the lively discussion of these and related matters at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute speaker dinner,” said Lord Conrad Black.

The speaker dinner was one of many events that CGAI holds on an annual basis. CGAI’s mission is to identify Canadian global interests, promote more active and effective international involvement through rigorous strategic and policy analysis and to help inform Canadians on the connection between international affairs and a secure and prosperous Canada. CGAI events feature world-renowned subject matter experts speaking on issues such as diplomacy, security, energy, and other matters pertaining to global affairs.
