Arizona Community Physicians Modernizes Infrastructure, Speeds Applications to Improve Patient Care with NetApp

Physician-owned medical group teams with cStor and NetApp to modernize and future-proof infrastructure, eliminate downtime, safeguard patient data, and deliver real-time access to patient records

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NetApp (NASDAQ:NTAP), empowering its customers to change the world with data, today celebrates Arizona’s largest and most successful physician-owned medical group, Arizona Community Physicians (ACP). ACP teamed with cStor and NetApp to transform the delivery of health offerings and services by speeding caregiver access to nearly 700,000 real-time patient records.

Founded in 1994, ACP is dedicated to delivering exceptional care and services in family medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, endocrinology, rheumatology, internal medicine, dermatology, and gynecology. With more than 50 locations in Tucson, Oro Valley, and Green Valley, ACP’s 166 providers have created a healthcare practice that puts the patient first.

As a data-driven company, ACP realized that it was time to modernize its infrastructure when caregivers began experiencing problems with their electronic health record (EHR), financial management, and population health management solutions. ACP’s existing infrastructure wasn’t equipped to handle the enormous quantity of data generated by lab results, scanned documents, third-party records, and other EHR data. As a result, the system slowed and often crashed. Increasingly, ACP’s caregivers were unable to reliably access and update patient records, and sometimes stayed after hours to update them. Recognizing that quick access to accurate patient records is essential, ACP turned to cStor to help them modernize their data center.

“cStor did an exceptional job of translating the challenges we have been experiencing into hardware that does everything we need,” said Anthony Fortunato, director of information systems at Arizona Community Physicians. “They helped us with everything, from presenting different options to arranging for meetings with the appropriate folks at NetApp to showcase their technology. They helped us get all the pricing and specifications down to exactly what we were looking for and even helped us size it appropriately.”

After installing a new NetApp® all-flash system with Snapshot™ technology in conjunction with Commvault for backup and NetApp OnCommand® software, ACP saw an immediate improvement in speed and performance. Not only were they able to easily move, manage, and protect vast amounts of data in Allscripts, the sheer speed of the flash drives helped them identify and fix bugs in existing applications that were holding them back.

“I believe strongly in NetApp – they are the best in the industry as far as I’m concerned. Everywhere I’ve ever used their hardware I’ve had the most success and the least amount of problems — and after being in IT for over 20 years, I think that’s saying something,” said Fortunato. “At the end of the day, NetApp not only keeps our data secure and within our complete control, it also significantly reduces total cost of ownership. We now have the right hardware to run this system for at least the next 6 years, which are a huge total cost of ownership improvement over our old infrastructure.”

Today, ACP has an infrastructure in place that thrives in data-driven environments. As a result of reducing backup rates from 12 hours to 1.5 hours, and providing caregivers with real-time access to patient records, ACP can focus on innovation, creating new revenue streams, optimizing operations, and actively seeking new customer touchpoints.
