WOW! Unlimited Media’s Frederator Networks Grows Its Roster of Animation Content for All Audiences

NEW YORK AND VANCOUVER, British Columbia AND TORONTO, April 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WOW! Unlimited Media Inc.’s (TSXV:WOW.A) (TSXV:WOW.B) (the "Company" or "WOW") company Frederator Networks is at the forefront of next-generation kids and youth animation as a vertically-integrated company that consists of Frederator Studios and Frederator Digital.

Frederator Studios, founded in 1998 by serial media entrepreneur and former Hanna-Barbera president Fred Seibert, makes cartoons for television, movies, and the Internet. It is currently in production on Season 2 of the international hit series for Netflix, Castlevania, based on the Konami video game. Castlevania Season 1 was acclaimed as the only Rotten Tomatoes’ “Fresh” adaptation of a video game to ever screen and GameSpot’s Best Netflix Exclusive of 2017.

For Amazon, Frederator Studios is producing Costume Quest based on the video game from Double Fine Productions. The series of role playing games comes to life in a colorful cartoon world. Will McRobb, co-creator of The Adventures of Pete & Pete, is showrunner for Costume Quest; executive producers include Seibert, Kevin Kolde and Eric Homan.

Frederator Studios also continues to produce Pendleton Ward’s Bravest Warriors (with the latest season a co-production with Nelvana) for Frederator Digital’s Cartoon Hangover Select channel on Ellation’s VRV VOD platform. Frederator Studio’s Bee and PuppyCat, created by Natasha Allegri, went to series through the most backed Kickstarter campaign for an animated project ever presented and its first season is exclusive to Cartoon Hangover Select. Bravest Warriors is exclusive to Cartoon Hangover Select on VRV in the United States with linear rights through Wow! Unlimited but international rights are available through Corus Entertainment.

Seibert pioneered the concept of incubator series to help discover and foster animation talent. He and the team at Frederator Studios have successfully created several incubator series since the company’s inception including Oh Yeah! Cartoons and Random! Cartoons for Nickelodeon. These yielded hits such as Butch Hartman’s The Fairly OddParents for Nickelodeon and Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time on Cartoon Network.

Frederator Studios’ latest incubator series, GO! Cartoons, the company’s co-production with Sony Pictures Animation, is just finishing its release on Frederator Digital’s Cartoon Hangover channels. GO! Cartoons brings promising talent and animated content to the attention of Sony Pictures Animation through an alternative development method. Frederator Studios’ development team took hundreds of pitches, and with Sony Pictures Animation, identified twelve short film projects which Sony Pictures Animation funded. GO! Cartoons was then released on Frederator Digital’s Cartoon Hangover channel on YouTube (with over 3 million views and counting) and on Cartoon Hangover Select on VRV. At least one of those short projects will become a series for Frederator Digital’s Cartoon Hangover channel.

On its development slate, Frederator Studios has Catlantis, based on the acclaimed children’s book of the same name by Russian author Anna Starobinets. The upcoming cartoon will be story edited by Brydie Lee-Kennedy (The Amazing World of Gumball, Bravest Warriors). Catlantis follows Baguette, a loafing house cat, who must travel back through time to complete a true hero’s task in order to marry the love of his life and restore peace to the ancient fabled city of Catlantis. Frederator Studios is currently looking for a distribution partner for Catlantis.

Frederator Studios and Recursion Media are working with award-winning author Faith Erin Hicks to develop an animated series based on her The Nameless City graphic novels. Frederator Studios is also actively developing Manly by Jesse and Justin Moynihan, based on a short film from Frederator’s Too Cool! Cartoons incubator series.

Frederator Digital programs many online channels and produces original cartoons. Frederator Digital recently released several new, original cartoon mini-series for its Cartoon Hangover Select channel on the VRV platform from Ellation. Shadowstone Park from Jason Steele (Charlie the Unicorn) premiered in December 2017. Slug Riot from Mike Rosenthal released in January 2018. (not)Hero, the debut show from Liz Chun premiered in February 2018 with Cris P Duck from creator Ralph Kidson arriving in March 2018. Frederator Digital’s trio of YouTube channels, including Cartoon Hangover, pop culture focused Channel Frederator, and video game-centric The Leaderboard, garners over 30 Million views a month. Frederator Digital also manages The Channel Frederator Network of over 3000 artist and animation channels.
