Sika Powers its Digital Workplace with Sinequa’s Cognitive Search & Analytics Platform

Sinequa’s solution provides a unique access point to IBM Connections Cloud Collaboration Platform, Sika AG’s worldwide corporate websites and multiple other data sources

NEW YORK, May 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sinequa today announced that Sika AG, the world's leading supplier of systems and products for bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing and protecting for the construction and automotive industry, has set up a comprehensive search center for the digital workplace based on the Sinequa platform.

One of the main data sources is “SikaConnect,” a cloud-based collaboration platform based on IBM Connections, which forms the backbone for the intranet and thus for the digital workplace at Sika. Sinequa indexes the content from SikaConnect and represents a comprehensive search center (SikaSearch) for the collaboration platform. With its powerful connector technology, Sinequa connects to SikaConnect as well as multiple other data sources and enables Sika to deliver relevant information for over 18,000 employees worldwide from decentralized, structured and unstructured data. The implementation partner in this project is DTI AG.

Edwin Meier, head of application services at Sika, commented: “Sinequa was implemented quickly and now provides our employees worldwide with the most relevant information from all tapped data sources, and with very short response times. This is how we transform ourselves from a data-driven company into a knowledge-driven one. The cooperation with DTI in the project was excellent.”

Sika’s workforce has grown from 2,000 to more than 18,000 over the past 40 years. In the decentralized company, organizational networking and communications became increasingly difficult. To address this issue, the company in 2015 introduced IBM Connections, the combined collaboration solution for email, online meetings, instant messaging, file sharing and joint document processing. Since October 2017, SikaConnect has been operated completely in the cloud.

In this context, Sika needed a search technology with powerful natural language processing (NLP) to quickly compile relevant information from unstructured and structured data for employees in their work context. After intensive market research, Sika opted for the Sinequa software platform because of its comprehensive scope of capabilities.

Stéphane Kirchacker, vice president sales EMEA at Sinequa, said: “We are pleased that with Sika AG, yet another globally successful company is using our Cognitive Search & Analytics platform. Together with our partner DTI, we help Sika gain better insights from data, promote innovation and deliver the right information to the right person at the right time.”

NLP for more than 20 languages, over 180 connectors for data sources from the cloud, Hadoop and on-premises enterprise applications, machine learning and security are integral parts of the Sinequa solution and are optimally combined such that they complement and reinforce each other. The relevance of the information provided and the security of access to this information are incomparably higher than with an accumulation of non-combined and integrated methods. In demanding environments at large international companies such as Sika, this combination in a coherent architecture is crucial for the required knowledge transfer.
