Senate vote on marijuana legalization could have Canadian companies reeling; Cannabis Learning Series launches a turn-key training solution for employers

CALGARY, Alberta, June 06, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CLS Training Inc., a learning and engagement company, has launched the Cannabis Learning Series (CLS), a turn-key solution that helps resolve employer concerns over the impending legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada. As Bill C-45 is due for a final Senate vote tomorrow, legalization could happen within eight to 12 weeks afterward. The resulting workplace implications are numerous, and employers need to act as soon as possible to effectively navigate this new legislation.

According to the National Cannabis Survey by Statistics Canada, 4.2 million Canadians between the ages of 25 and 34 reported that they have used marijuana in the past three months. Additionally, a study conducted by the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) in January 2018 found that 71% of workplaces are not prepared for the impact of cannabis legalization. This Senate vote could affect a significant segment of the workforce, and employers who commit to preparing in advance will be in a better position to keep employees safe, not to mention limiting their exposure to liability.

“This is not something Canadian companies can ignore. Implementing updated policies, educating employees and training your workforce is a must,” states Jeff Bradshaw, President and CEO of CLS. “Companies need to address this issue immediately and we’re providing a turn-key solution that can be implemented within a few weeks.”

The Cannabis Learning Series is a complete training solution for employers that include comprehensive eLearning courses and educational videos for all employees including supervisors, managers and executive teams. The package also includes presentation slide decks and ghost written articles to supplement overall policy development and communications, as well as a prevention and awareness campaign, all of which companies can seamlessly integrate into their existing policy framework within a matter of weeks.

“Updating your current drug and alcohol policy is the first step, but then you need to actively train your supervisors and front line employees,” explains Bradshaw. “In addition to training, we encourage companies to implement a Fit For Duty prevention and awareness campaign which is also included in the package.”

The Cannabis Learning Series offers a cost-effective solution that is focused on reducing workplace incidents. With a scalable rate structure, it meets the needs of both small and large organizations from anywhere between 50 to 5,000+ employees. This solution provides everything that human resource departments need in order to effectively and efficiently prepare their company for the upcoming changes in Canadian laws.
