Washington D.C., June 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In celebration of cancer survivorship, Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Suburban Hospital has partnered with StoryCorps to collect the stories of resilient cancer patients in the Metropolitan Washington-area and the journeys they’ve travelled with their medical teams. The stories, recorded in early May 2018, invite listeners into the lives of patients and give them the chance to hear first-hand about the will, courage, and drive of individuals facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
- Fatima Djalo and Dr. Akila Viswanathan talk about what helped Fatima cope with her illness and many treatments, life lessons learned from her experience, and her relationship with Dr. Viswanathan.
- Edmund and Mary Goldwag and Dr. Armine Smith talk about Dr. Smith’s treatment of Edmund’s prostate cancer that had spread to other organs. Edmund begins by describing his initial diagnosis.
- “Susan” (name withheld) and Dr. Ben Levy discuss the diagnosis and treatment of “Susan’s” lung cancer, the longstanding misconceptions about the cause of the disease, and the advances in treatment.
